This painting is of the 1978 winner of the American Triple Crown, Affirmed. The Triple Crown consists of The Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes. He was the last Triple Crown winner until American Pharoah broke the drought in 2015. What makes hi sTriple Crown bid so special was the battle he had going with his rival, Alydar. Alydar was on Affirmeds heels the whole way in all three races. He definitely gave Affirmed a run for his money.
I have been inspired to do a portrait in this montage format for each Triple Crown Winner. Affirmed is the second in this series. This painting will be available as well without the name plate and border which would look better on canvas.
This painting was painted digitally on an iPad Pro using the app Procreate.
